Letterpress printing is a technique of relief printing using a printing press, a process by which many copies are produced by repeated direct impression of an inked, raised surface against sheets or a continuous roll of paper. Letterpress printing is unique and different from standard printing formats as described by Wikipedia... "Contemporary letterpress is considered a craft as it involves using a skill and is made by hand. A small amount of high-quality art and hobby letterpress printing remain across North America. This fine letterpress work is crisper than offset litho because of its impression into the paper, giving greater visual definition to the type and artwork, although it is not what letterpress traditionally was meant for. Today, many of these small letterpress shops survive by printing fine editions of books or by printing upscale invitations and stationery. These methods often use presses that require the press operator to feed paper one sheet at a time by hand."
We started Custom Printing with a letterpress. We quickly added several more letterpresse and then added offset printing presses. While the letterpress technology is old, it provides processes that cannot be done with any other equipment. We are one of the few shops in Baltimore to operate a letterpress in addition to our offset machines. What this means is we have the ability to print your project, and also finish it in our shop.
Your job will not be packed up and shipped to another company for die cutting, perforating or numbering. We do all of these processes in house. We also offer other bindery and finishing services.
Some of the Finishing Services we offer in house:
- Die Cutting
- Consecutive Numbering
- Wire O & Plastic Coil Binding
- Booklet Making, Saddle Stitch & Nested Booklets
Not only do we finish our own work that we print, we also offer our finishing services as trade services to other printers.
